2017 - 2018 Dental College of Georgia Course

The course involves three intensive weekends of meetings.  The meeting dates are confirmed, however topics may be shifted depending upon course needs.

,Session I - October 6th - 8th, 2017

 Welcome, Introduction to Business Principles, Fundamental Economics for Practice Management, Human Resources Management
 
This weekend will begin with a dinner on Friday evening where a practical exercise concerning dental business decisions will commence, this example will be used to illustrate practical application of course concepts.  Students will examine basic business principles as applicable in the private dental practice environment.  Students will be introduced to relevant economic concepts as related to the operations of a dental practice.  Participants will also examine the operational issues practices face involving employees.  Legal and regulatory issues relevant to the dental practice, performance management of the dental team, and team member compensation will be examined in depth as they pertain to the unique environment of a private dental practice.  Case studies and other examples will be analyzed.

Session II - January 12th - 14th, 2018

Dental Finance Concepts, Dental Financial Statement Analysis, Fundamentals of Accounting for Dentistry, Introduction to Marketing for Dental Practices, Introduction to Dental Practice Competitive Strategy, Advanced Practice Marketing, Capital Purchasing Decisions
 
This weekend will begin with a dinner on Friday evening where a practical exercise concerning dental business decisions will commence, this example will be used to illustrate practical application of course concepts.  Students will examine accounting concepts and financial concepts as related to dental practice operations.  Participants will also learn the financial evaluation tools necessary to calculate the return on equipment purchases and other large capital expenditures.   Students will also learn the tools involved to create an effective practice marketing approach in tandem with competitive practice strategy.
 

Session III - February 23rd - 25th, 2018

Practical Dental Financial Statement Analysis, Key Dental Business Performance Indicators, Practical Valuation of Dental Practices, Practical Practice Marketing and Analysis, Practical Advanced Practice Strategy, Practical Human Resources Issues, Course Conclusion
 
Participants will learn and apply key tools for analyzing business performance using financial statements and operational data to examine their own practice’s performance.  The tools used by financial experts to value a practice will also be examined in detail and participants will gain the knowledge to use these valuation tools with their own practice.  Practical issues in dental practice marketing and strategy will be discussed, along with the practical use of evaluation tools.  Practical concerns with human resources issues in the practice team will be discussed. ​
